About the Master Class
Teachers, social workers, drama educators and applied theatre practitioners are often required to create dramatic scripts in their workplace. This master class will develop an understanding of two key elements (dramatic situations and characters) of effective dramatic script and the knowledge and skills to produce these.

Scriptwriters in modern theatre often go through workshopping processes in creating their works. Such a collaborative process is particularly relevant to educational and applied theatre settings. In the 6-hour workshop, you will work with other participants as a team to generate a dramatic situation, focus it thematically and in terms of creating dramatic action, create characters from these situations and flesh them out to give them depth and vividness. Through this process, you will learn to manage performance text and understand how it works off the page.

The workshop will entail you in practical exercises, improvisations and other experiments including short pieces of writing, which you can choose to write in Chinese or English.
